Благодаря фильму у нас всех перед глазами кривая усмешка Исилдура-одержимого, который мог уничтожить Кольцо – и не уничтожил. В общем, если следовать только книге LotR, все почти правильно. Неприятная историческая личность получается.
Если не брать во внимание два текста: Akkalabeth, где молодой Исилдур рискуя жизнью унес плод с обреченного Белого Древа, и лежал израненный, и пришел в себя, когда на маленьком деревце цветы появились. И Unfinished Tales, вот эти короткие

Elendur went to his father, who was standing dark and alone, as if lost in thought. ‘Atarinya’, he said, ‘what of the power that would cow these foul creatures and command them to obey you? Is it then of no avail?’

‘King’s son’, said Isildur, ‘I knew that I must do so; but I feared the pain. Forgive me, and my pride that has brought you to this doom.’ Elendur kissed him. ‘Go! Go now!’ he said.
